Increased capacity on part of office of prosecutor general, and other component of judiciary.
Funded to Department of Justice’s Resident Legal Advisor (RLA) office supported development of the criminal justice sector.
It provided assistance to the Office of the Prosecutor General and the police to build capacity in the investigation and prosecution of various crimes. It made recommendations to the parliament on proposed criminal legislation, including anti-money laundering and anti-corruption initiatives. The RLA identified deficiencies in existing law, and proposed legislative review and revision. The RLA also promoted public access to law by aiding in the translation and distribution of laws in Tetum and other languages.
