Improved protection of women and girls through the establishment of legal frameworks and mechanisms to uphold their rights.

Reduced vulnerability of women and girls through improved outreach mechanisms, services and the establishment of a social protection scheme.

Improved social and economic situation of women and girls through a fair allocation of resources using gender-responsive budgeting.

UN Women is the MDG-F Joint Programme managing agency through the Programme Management Unit (PMU).

UN Women is also implementing the  Gender Responsive Budgeting project component.

Through the PMU, UN Women coordinates implementing agencies and contributes to the strengthening of legal frameworks that protect women and girls while also developing capacity of the government and NGOs to improve protection for women and girls through the establishment and operation of shelter services for survivors of sexual and gender based violence.

The GRB project component focuses on budget as an influential policy instrument of the government to ensure government’s financial commitment to programmes that will impact positively on the lives of women and girls.

UN Women leaded and contributed in establishing effective coordination among the 5 implementing UN agencies, 12 Government agencies and 6 NGO partners of the MDG-F Joint Programme: Supporting Gender Equality and Women’s Rights.

As lead UN agency for the MDG-F Joint Prgroamme: Supporting Gender Equality and Women’s Rights, UN Women contributed to achieving the MDGs, Paris Declaration and Accra Principles and UN Reform (delivering as one).

GRB guidelines for analysing the Annual Action Plans produced and provided to the Government and NGOs. Provided questions and analysis of the State Budget to the Parliament to scrutinize 2011 State Budget.

In 2009, the National Parliament issued a Resolution for GRB. Another similar call circular issued in 2010. In 2011, the Prime Minister sent a letter with the 2012 fiscal envelope to all Ministries and State Secretary to reflect GSP and GRB in their Annual Action Plans.

Generic questions and letter developed and used by the NGO to advocate for increase budget for the implementation of Law against Domestic Violence. GRB indicators are provided to NGO's for use in budget analysis.

20% budget of Ministry of Health and Education targeted women and children and 30% of budget is using gender disaggregated targets.

In 2011, Parliament increased budget allocation for SEPI and other line ministries for  implementation of the Law against Domestic Violence as well as for the Ministry of Agriculture to provide training to women farmers.
