Timor-Leste Pesticide Law is developed and submited to the government for approval.
A recent study done by USAID revealed that a wide range of pesticides sold in Timor-Leste are imported from Indonesia or China, and about one-third of them have active ingredients that are not registered with the USEPA. Information regarding appropriate pesticide choice, application, and safe use practices is very limited. PPE equipment and instruction is also very limited.
The Government is therefore determined to enact a pesticide law in Timor-Leste to regulate pesticide imports, use, and disposal in Timor-Leste. Thus FAO technical assistance was requested to support the formulation of the pesticide law.
Pesticide law is drafted through a consultative process.
